Introducing Fashion Bikes with Flare by Red or Dead
If you follow my tweets on Twitter, you may know of my ongoing cycle training. Yes, ‘cycle training’. And if like my best friend you are now rolling on the floor in fits of laughter, you should know I am rolling my eyes at you and brushing away your amusement at my lack of bike riding skill!
My new found desire to learn to cycle, my curiosity about bicycles themselves and my love of fashion found me at the launch of Red or Dead’s fashion bikes launch in Kingly Street. The purposely-styled store was decorated with beautifully framed vintage bicycle adverts and the collection of bikes were elegantly displayed, veiled in colourful Red or Dead prints.
Now I know little (read: nothing at all) about bikes, so I was glad to be approached by the lovely Chase PR people who really know their stuff! The girls told me how each bike (there are three styles) is exclusively manufactured by Raleigh UK Ltd with each style having its own unique technical specifications. What I was eager to know was which bike was for the beginner?
The answer: The Ruschia Rose. A bike for comfortable, practical and fashionable cycling. My favourite feature of this bike is the purple basket (a purple basket!).
The Bikeland bicycle is for more of an experienced cyclist, featuring highly functional elements for a supreme cycling experience.
The Seaspray, my favourite design offers a host of fashionable and functional elements, creating a comfortable and quality cycling experience – a bike for the committed and serious cyclist.
I was excited to meet Red or Dead’s creative director Katie Greenyer, a cycling enthusiast herself. She spoke animatedly about her beautifully designed bikes and the matching bicycle covers they come with and insisted I have a go riding one. Fortunately for me, the bikes were locked to the ground (I’m sure there is a more technical term for it, but I know not of it), so I cycled away (on the spot) confidently.
The exercise called for refueling in the form of tasty hors d’oeuvres and cocktails (or lemonade for me) and enjoying the display of flamboyant bicycle helmets designed by students of London College of Fashion. Which one would you wear?
For those of you dying to know about my cycle training progress(I’m sure you’re all glued to your computer screens right now, aren’t you?), I had a cycle training lesson the day after the Red or Dead Fashion Bike launch. And reader, I rode a bike.
All the bikes pictured are available to buy at all Evans Cycle stores across the land. If you’re lucky enough to get one, do let me know what you think!
(Apologies for the substandard quality of my photographs on this post. The strap on my leather satchel (pictured above) decided it couldn’t be bothered to do it’s job, making it impossible to carry heaving items, such as my Dslr in the bag.)
