Angela Saini, Science Journalist and published author launched her book Geek Nation earlier this month and I felt honoured to have been invited.  Taking place at the rather grand Royal Academy of Engineering in London, the intimate event was attended by Angela’s closest friends, fellow journalists and her lovely family as well as names from the publishing world.

Inspired by her father, a chemical engineer an intrigued by the geek status that was becoming synonymous with Indian people, Angela decided to investigate India’s love affair with science and technology and what the sweeping scientific revolution means for the rest of the world.

Geek Nation isn’t just a book of scientific facts and analysis; the author’s voice is apparent throughout – faithful to her extensive academic knowledge, yet incredibly entertaining as she narrates her findings with amusing and heartfelt anecdotes which altogether provide a unique insight into a country and its people eager to be recognised for it’s rich and advanced scientific culture and their desire to become the leaders in scientific research and technology.

My soon to be married friends, film producer and director Rainer Nierman and climate change consultant (and Angela's sister) Monica Saini at the launch.

“What surprised me about Angela,” says her publisher Rupert Lancaster of Hodder UK “is that Geek Nation is her first book”. He goes on to explain that the author’s style of writing reads like that of a far more experienced writer and that he had been astounded that Angela hadn’t already had other books published. He predicts many successful publications in Saini’s future and I’m sure he’s right.
