My Introduction to Mass Effect

So last night I had my first play on Mass Effect 1. which didn’t go quite as well as I would have liked. I’m not a serious gamer, but my husband is and the Xbox 360 and gaming has become the soundtrack to most of my evenings and many of my days. And after being seduced by the wonderful imagery of Assassins Creed 2 and the gripping tale of Commander Shepard. in Mass Effect 2, I felt compelled to take hold of the controller and delve into the perils of BioWare’s. first galactic crusade in Mass Effect 1.
I love fiction and I love writing stories, so the interactivity between the characters in the game and the engaging conversation pretty much hooked me. That is until I entered my first mission to retrieve the Prothean beacon from Eden Prime. . My navigational skills are near inexistent, so finding my way around with the control pad wasn’t easy and similarly my targeting and shooting was all over the place.
Ten minutes into the mission on Eden Prime, my stomach was crying out for me to stop and my brain seemed to be spinning in my skull. I had started out with such enthusiasm and had been defeated so easily. According to my husband, it’s the way I use the controller that was the cause of the nausea and apparently if I perfect my controller skills, all will be well.
So I’m going to put my ‘serious’ gaming on hold for a while and perhaps play some arcade games to get a grip on using the control pad. I welcome any tips or advice.
On a slightly different note, I’m so very much looking forward to Guild Wars 2 . PC gaming is so much easier.
